Introducing New Bees to the Bee Yard

March 28, 2019

Our bee yard is situated on land that both my great-grandparents and grandparents lived. My uncle lives on that land today. What I treasure most about the site of our bee yard is that my great-grandmother raised bees on this very land and that the steeple of the church I grew up in (and where my daddy is buried) is visible just beyond the treeline. It is as beautiful as it is serene. Rolling hills of verdant green, a small pond dotted with lily pads, and a pasture to the right.

To kick off the 2019 honey season, we installed four new packages of bees to our apiary. Our tradition is to rise early, sip coffee on the hour long ride in the truck, and meet our new bees.

We’ve included some photographs of the new bee colonies being installed. We will return to the hives within a short 24 hour span to see if the queens have been released from their queen cages. Our fingers are crossed for a promising honey flow season.
